Giotto, Fra Angelico, Donatello and the Medici

This is the catolog of the “widespread” exhibition Giotto, Beato Angelico, Donatello e i Medici (Giotto, Beato Angelico, Donatello and the Medici). Mugello culla del Rinascimento (The Mugello, Cradle of the Renaissance) was created between May 29th to November 30th, 2008 as a significant part of a larger project meant to rediscover the regional territory. The book illustrates a far-reaching artistic phenomenon that held Florence as its energetic center, and it describes the role of the Medici - extremely important in the history of the Mugello - as one of the most considerable of its patrons and customers. The presence of works by Giotto, Beato Angelico, Donatello, Brunelleschi, Andrea del Castagno, Bronzino and Vasari are a testimony to the value of the works exhibited and make a formidible argument for following any or all of the innovative cultural itineraries proposed in the book, including visits to the Convento del Bosco ai Frati in San Piero a Sieve, the Palazzo dei Vicari in Scarperia, the Museo della Manifattura Chini in Borgo San Lorenzo, the Museo “Beato Angelico” in Vicchio and the Palazzo Medici Riccardi in Florence. This publication belongs to the initiative entitled "Big Little Museums," aimed toward the promotion of cultural ties between museums in the province of Florence, suitably complementary to the collections of the city itself through the presence of artistic charaters, true figurative masterpieces and the applied arts.

Presentations by Edoardo Speranza, Claudio Martini, Matteo Renzi, Bruno Santi, Ennio Antonelli.
