Build to rival Versailles the Royal Palace of Caserta is the most beautiful Palace in Europe, originally to rival Versailles, which was its model, it surpassed it in elegance and style. Designed by Luigi Vanvitelli for King Charles the Bourbon of Naples, who later became Carlos III of Spain,  leaving his throne to his son Ferdinando, it has over 1200 rooms and had a 2 miles long gardens decorated with fountains adorned by statues inspired by classical mythology.
