The wooden puzzle represents the Birth of Venus by Sandro Botticelli, an icon of Italian art. Painted in 1485, it was part of a decorative cycle of the Medici Villa of Castello; today it is kept in the Uffizi Gallery in Florence. Despite the title, it represents the arrival of the goddess Venus, by sea, on the island of Cyprus. The goddess navigates on a shell pushed by the wind Zephyr represented to her right. On her coast, a maid welcomes her with a cloak full of flowers. Some scholars have recognized the features of Simonetta Vespucci in the face of the goddess Venus; considered one of the most fascinating women of the Renaissance she died very young at the age of 23.
