Nero d'Avola is the expression of a particular native vine of Sicily. For centuries it has been of fundamental importance in the production of many Sicilian wines, but it is only since the 1970s that it began to be valued in purity: today it is defined as the prince of Sicilian vines.

It has an intense ruby red color, with violet reflections, the aroma is complex, with notes of dried plum. The rich and velvety flavor, has great structure and aromatic persistence, with typical austere but gentle tannins.

To better explain the corporate history of Cantine Fina, it is necessary to start from the experience of Bruno Fina as a young Enologist, who, in the early nineties, took on the role of technical manager of the experimental cellar of the Sicilian Institute of Vine and Wine. , a parastate body that deals with viticulture in Sicily.

In those years, he will take part in an experimental study on the Sicilian territory which involved the planting of various international varieties throughout Sicily. This study, which will mark the epochal turning point for Sicily, elevating it to a winemaking continent, is thanks to those studies if today Sicily produces Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Viognier, Syrah, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and more ... the oenologist Giacomo Tachis, his “Dear Master”, with whom he will collaborate for fifteen years.

At the beginning of the 2000s, Bruno finally manages to realize his dream: a new modern and rational cellar capable of allowing the production of wines according to his philosophy. For him Sicily is a micro continent, with infinite morphological and climatic variables which makes it a land in which it is possible to dare, planting most of the known varieties of vines, even the most unlikely.

The most provocative production arrives in the mid-2000s, when Bruno decides to plant the aromatic Traminer, identifying a plot of land of about three hectares at over 500 meters high on Mount Erice, in the province of Trapani: a territorial context with climatic characteristics familiar to this vine. Here he plants the aromatic Traminer vines: the first vintage was 2009 and was left alone. Subsequently Bruno Fina decided to assemble the aromatic Traminer with about 10% of sauvignon blanc: this is how “Kikè” was born, the most representative wine of the winery, a simple experiment in the oenological field that proved to be a success.
